Our latest effort is an online presentation on building certified green homes. Discover the environmental benefits, advantages and cost savings of going green. Learn how consumers can save money while builders grow their businesses.

Our presentation covers the essentials of building green. We also discuss why we have chosen to use the National Green Building Program. Signature Building Systems then focuses on how the Green process works, from design, to verification and ultimately certification. This is a must see for every builder interested in staying competitive.

Builders can view this presentation at the “Builders University” section of our website: www.signaturecustomhomes.com/builder-university

Consumers, please stay tuned for our updated “Green” page. Here, Signature Building Systems will discuss consumer advantages to the green building process.

You can see by the pictures that we have a home in production that is having polyurethane open-cell insulation applied to the exterior walls. This type of product not only works as an insulation giving you an effective R value, it also works as an air infiltration barrier. Icynene is applied as a liquid and expands to 100 times it’s initial volume! This effectively seals gaps and crevices that can compromise air tightness. Other benefits claimed by the manufacturer include improved air quality, effective moisture management and increased sound control.

This home is a custom 1,600 square foot “salt box” that will be delivered to Essex, MA. The builder is Distinctive Modular Home Builders, LLC. This home will also feature radiant floor heating and solar hot water heating.

With so many companies and consumers focusing on green; green energy, green products, green homes, it comes to no surprise that many building products companies are beginning to offer greener goods for the building industry.

At Signature Building Systems, we are committed and focused on incorporating green products into our homes whenever feasible. Over the next few weeks, we will be transitioning the insulation used on every Signature home to a new, greener; or perhaps I should say browner; insulation from Knauf Insulation called EcoBatt.

This revolutionary insulation is composed mainly of sand; a rapidly renewable resource; giving it a brown color. Its other main component is post consumer recycled glass and unlike traditional insulation it does not contain artificial colors, acrylics, and other chemicals. It has elevated acoustical performance, excellent insulating value, and superior consistency throughout the product. Efficient insulation is the simplest and most cost effective way to reduce energy use and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. We understand that green isn’t a niche market any longer; it is now a mainstream focus where companies must adapt and conform to stay ahead of the curve. For more information on EcoBatt insulation please contact us or visit Knauf Insulations website at www.knaufinsulation.us
